While standing, measure from the bottom of the knee cap (knee cap should not be covered with pads) to half inch higher than the top of the instep -to allow movement at the ankle.

A bit shorter is better than a bit longer.
In the measuraments below, the half inch has been deducted. For example, a shin lenght of 14" (from bottom of knee to top of instep) would require a LG pad.

Xlg - Covers a shin 15" or longer
LG - Covers a shin 13" to 14"
M - Covers a shin 11" to 12"
SM - Covers a shin 10" to 11"
XSM - Covers a shin 9" to 10"
